Kidapawan is a native term derived from the Manobo words "tida" meaning spring, and "pawan" meaning highland. Originally known as Tidapawan, however, the passage of time and the influx of non-native settlers from Luzon, Visayas and other areas of Mindanao influenced the change of the letter T to K making official name Kidapawan. It was created as the fourth town of the empire province of Cotabato by virtue of Executive Order No. 82 issued by then President Manuel A. Roxas on August 18, 1947. With the advent of the next millennium, and after having been proclaimed lately as a component city of the Province of Cotabato by virtue of Republic Act 8500 signed by then President Fidel V. Ramos on February 12, 1998, Kidapawan is now starting to soar towards a steady growth in this stage of agri-industrialization. Envisioned to become an agro-industrial hub of Central Mindanao. Kidapawan City has created a climate conducive to investment evidenced by the establishment of an industrial zone in Barangay Sikitan and Katipunan, and the promulgation of the city's investment code. Moreover, with the maintenance of peace and order, upgrading of the infrastructure, vigorous tourism and investment promotion, and the ever-supportive private sector, the city presents tremendous opportunities for both the local and foreign investors. All these, including the distinct advantages such as the presence f the PNOC geothermal power generation plant, abundant natural resources, typhoon-free and gateway to majestic Mt. Apo, reliable workforce, strong local economy, and strategic location between two regional centers of Davao City and Cotabato City, plus its accessibility to two major seaports of Cagayan de Oro and Gen. Santos City, and many more, make Kidapawan an attractive place to do business. So now is the time to discover Kidapawan City… its your ultimate investment and tourism destination in Central Mindanao. |
