Your INVESTMENT AND TOURISM DESTINATION IN CENTRAL MINDANAO DISCOVER Kidapawan City… Starting from the first camp at Lake Agko, trekkers will see along the way an exotic display of nature at its best- lush tropical rain forest dotted with hot and cold spring: crystal clear and the boiling mountain lakes; hidden waterfalls cascading with thunderous roar; sulfur craters; orchids and wild flowers; the soul- refreshing symphonies of cicadas and God's littlest creatures, and all- truly an exceptional display of nature in its primeval state. Bright dainty wild flowers and orchids clash with the forest green; golden fields of udang - udang - flower - flocked meadowlands, are a welcome sight as the tiny flowers nod their heads in dazzling sunlight. There are miniature as well as giant pitcher plants, cinnamon trees, and huge centered and moss-covered trees of darkly cooled, sunshield giant African fern forests. Hidden in the mountain fastness about 8,000 feet (2,438 M.) above sea level is Lake Venado - a crystal - clear and ice - cold expanse of fresh water that mirrors the majestic twin peaks of Mt. Apo. Beside the lake is a 15-hectare camping ground that resembles a golf course with green of wild Bermuda grasses. At the peak, linger awhile and take a deep breath. You may even shout to your heart's content as many past conquerors of Mt. Apo often did. But o completes your conquest, run westward and up towards the summit overlooking the town of Kidapawan. From there you can view the vastness and wild expanse of Mindanao. From that point also you will see and realize how lowly you were once been. On the eastern side, just some few hundred meters below the peak are sweet wild berries yours for the picking so with brilliant sulfur rocks, prized souvenir of climbers, which are, found along the crater area. Here volcanic vents continuously spew forth-sulfuric fumes with jet-liked rumbles. You may stay overnight at the summit if you can brave the biting cold especially of the early dawn, or trek down to Lake Venoda if you decide otherwise. A doe and her fawn may just keep you shy company while you are cramped beside the lake, bundled up as snugly warm as possible. Temperature goes down as low as 1 degree Celsius. From Lake Venoda, start the downward trek to the jump-of point at Lake Agko campsite passing through the same winding, knee-deep and swift-flowing Marble River hugging the rocks and boulders, jumping from stone to stone to make total of 14 exciting crossings for a single river. Finally, back of the first camp having had your share of exciting adventure and communion with nature. |
