Many years ago when Spanish colonists added the words "de Oro" ("of gold") to the name of the old coastal settlement of Cagayan, they were referring to the specks of gold they had discoevered in the Cagayan River. But today the terms has come to describe the "golden friendship" of a city known for its warm people and old-fashioned hospitality, as well as its emerging status as a booming eduational and commercial center. Cradled between the ancient mountains of Mindanao's interior and the gentle waters of Macabalan Bay.
