History buffs and visitors particularly interested in our heritage will find the region's capital city most fascinating.

The Butuan Regional Museum houses relics and artifacts that prove Butuan's pre-Hispanic existence as well as its rich cultural heritage. Gold jewelry, Chinese porcelain, and other archaeological diggings were found here together with nine "balangays" or "Butuan boats. The excavated "balangays" are now kept at the site of the first excavations at the Balangay Shrine Museum. One must also visit the Diocesan Liturgical Museum and private antique collections.
