The capital town Basco, is about 280 kilometers north of Aparri in Cagayan, or 860 kilometers north of Aparri in Cagayan, or 860 kilometers kilometers north of Manila. Its northernmost point is only 100kms away from Taiwan. There are several attractions, ranging from the dormant Iraya Volcano, Naidi Hills, Mt. Matarem, and Radar Tukom to the Spanish churches and limestone houses reminiscient of Irish country homes. White sand beaches abound surrounding the fishing villages. Visitors can also explore the Racajaide Cave, Sarokan Cave, as well as the burial caves. The island favors such activities as trekking, fishing, swimming, diving, camping and adventure photography.

The caves and its seven chambers are wonderful sights of the behold. The Sierra Cave, 20 meters from Callao Caves, has attractive cacite formuations that look like popcorn or a cauliflower. Palaui Isand, located at San Vicente, is an untouched paradise with lovely beaches, made attractive by the oresent of abundant marine resources and wildlife.

Cagayan is also known for interesting historic baroque churches One worth visiting is more than 300 years old Pamplona Church which once served as Japanese garrison and is said to be the exact site of the famous Yamashita treasures.
